Forwarding Email Accounts
Forwarding email accounts allow you to forward all of your emails to one particular email address of your choosing. Web hosts may advertise this feature as email forwarding or mail forwarding. Most web hosts provide this as a benefit of their hosting packages both in shared hosting and virtual or dedicated hosting packages.
Email forwarding is handy if you have many email addresses but wish to receive them under the one email address to avoid confusion. Email forwarding can involve several methods. One involves resending an email from one email address to another email address. Another use is to redirect the email from one address to send it to one or more other email addresses.
Email forwarding is also useful if you have an email address at yourdomain.com but want to receive that email at your Hotmail or other webmail account so you can access the email from anywhere at anytime. The people sending the email will never know that the email has been forwarded to your hotmail account.
All web hosts provide email forwarding services
Email forwarding services are for free however not many people make use of it. cPanel makes it easy to set up a domain forwarder.
First you need to log into your cPanel account, then click the Forwarders link under the Mail section.
You will see three columns here:
- Domain: This is the domain being forwarded
- Forward To: The domain that the email is being forwarded to
- Delete: Delete existing forwarders by pressing the X
How to add a domain forwarder in cPanel
- Click the Add Domain Forwarder button
- From the drop down menu select the domain that you want to forward from.
- Enter the domain that you wish to forward the mail to.
- Click the Add Domain Forwarder button
- View the text saying that your domain is being forwarded to the other domain.
- Click the Add Forwarder button
- View the text confirming that your email address is being forwarded to the specified email address.
As you can see it is quick and simple to set up email forwarding in cPanel. Most other control panels will have a similar process but contact your web host if you are having trouble setting this up as you don't want to cause troubles with your emails.
